The 4-Step Flossing Technique
Master the correct motion to clean between teeth without irritating delicate gum tissue.
Measure & Wrap
Break off about 18 inches (45 cm) of dental floss. Wind most of it around your middle fingers, leaving a couple of inches of floss to work with.
Gently Slide
Hold the floss taut between thumbs and index fingers. Gently slide it between your teeth with a gentle zigzag motion—never snap the floss into the gums.
Curve into a C-Shape
Curve the floss around the side of the tooth into a 'C' shape. Gently glide the floss into the space between the gum and the tooth until you feel light resistance.
Scrape Upwards
Gently scrape the side of the tooth, moving the floss away from the gum. Unroll a fresh section of floss for the next tooth and repeat throughout your entire mouth.
